Stamna Sifnos: Where Cycladic Heritage Meets Contemporary Calm
Nestled discreetly within the serene landscapes of Sifnos, Stamna offers a restorative retreat where nature, tradition, and warm Greek hospitality converge in harmony. This newly unveiled hotel invites guests to embrace simplicity, nourish themselves with wholesome cuisine, and reconnect with a more intentional way of living. Thoughtfully developed with a minimal carbon footprint and a deep respect for the island’s natural contours and cultural heritage, Stamna features both shared and private outdoor spaces and introduces a gastronomic concept led by acclaimed Greek chef Gikas Xenakis.

In Harmony with the Horizon
Opening this month, Stamna Sifnos is a love letter to the island that inspired it. Named after the traditional stamna—a ceramic pot emblematic of Sifnos’s rich pottery tradition—the hotel weaves local heritage into every element. Furnishings are custom-made by regional artisans, while the onsite organic garden cultivates native produce, immersing guests in a deeply authentic experience that honors the island’s history, craftsmanship, and natural beauty—complemented by the comfort of modern luxury.
“Stamna is our tribute to the timeless beauty of Sifnos. It was built with care for the land, inspired by local craft, and designed to invite guests into a slower, more mindful way of living where simplicity, sustainability, and tradition meet the warmth of genuine Greek hospitality,” say brothers Nikos and Costas Antimissaris, the hotel’s Originals.
The architectural and design vision, led by Greek firm Tsimpos and Associates, follows the philosophy “from local to global.” Every material and skill involved in construction was sourced within 80 nautical miles, significantly reducing the hotel’s environmental impact. The architecture is integrated into the land’s natural slope and vegetation, resulting in harmonious and sustainable structures. Notable materials include local marble from Tinos, Naxos, and Paros; mortars blended with Santorini earth; and handcrafted furnishings using cast iron, ribbed glass, olive wood, and premium fabrics. The color palette reflects the island’s identity—brick red for pottery, leaf-green for the Mediterranean landscape, and dusty blue for the nostalgic spirit of the Aegean.

Design, Privacy & Comfort
Set on a secluded 13,000-square-meter hillside plot, just ten minutes on foot from Apollonia, the island’s capital, Stamna offers privacy and tranquility amidst nature. Each of the 15 rooms and 5 suites faces east, framing spectacular sunrise views over the sea. Outdoor terraces and patios create peaceful environments for private dining, massages, or quiet moments of reflection.
Highlights include:
- Suite with Private Pool: Features an infinity pool overlooking the Aegean, a spacious garden, a master bedroom, and an inviting living area with two single beds—perfect for small families.
- Friends & Family Two-Bedroom Suite: Offers two double bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a generous 105-square-meter garden for larger groups.
- Honeymoon Nest: Tucked into its own secluded building, this suite is ideal for couples seeking privacy and romance.
Each accommodation features hand-carved olive wood furniture, Sifnian ceramics, and luxurious textiles—silk, linen, and cotton—sourced from neighboring islands. The interiors are a tactile expression of the Cycladic artisan spirit.
Gastronomy: A True Taste of the Cyclades
Chef Consultant Gikas Xenakis brings the soul of Sifnos to the table with a culinary program centered on local ingredients and modern Greek flair. At Pilós—named for the Greek word for “clay”—guests enjoy family-style al fresco dining with uninterrupted Aegean views. The menu draws on island flavors with dishes such as dolmadaki tartare, shrimp orzo, marinated zucchini, and eggplant pasticcio. Meals are paired with curated Greek wines and cocktails inspired by native herbs and produce.
In the mornings, Pilós transforms into a sunlit breakfast spot, offering delicacies like kalitsounia pies, Sifnos Loli, and kagianas. Light bites are available throughout the day at the exclusive guest-only Pool Bar.
The hotel’s Bostani garden, along with original olive, fig, and almond trees, supplies the kitchen with fresh vegetables, herbs, and fruits—bringing the island’s terroir directly to the plate.

Wellness & Leisure
Guests can unwind by the pool, surrounded by fragrant Mediterranean flora, or recharge in the shaded outdoor wellness zone equipped for yoga, Pilates, meditation, and strength training. Whether relaxing in a private garden or watching the sea from the terrace, guests are encouraged to embrace the Sifnian rhythm—slow, grounding, and joyful—while feeling truly at home.
The Island of Sifnos
Known as the pottery capital of the Aegean, Sifnos is famed for its ceramics and traditional cooking in terracotta dishes. The island offers over 100 kilometers of scenic hiking trails and dozens of hidden coves with crystalline waters—making it a destination for nature lovers and seekers of serenity, rather than nightlife.
Stamna Sifnos is perched just above Apollonia, and within a 15-minute drive of highlights like Kamares Port and Beach, the Monastery of Chrissopigi, Platis Gialos, Artemonas village, and the Castle of Sifnos. Access is simple via a 2.5-hour fast ferry from Athens, with easy onward connections to Milos, Serifos, and other Cycladic islands.
Sustainability at the Core
Environmental responsibility is foundational at Stamna. All building materials and labor were sourced within an 80-nautical-mile radius. Structures are insulated with certified recycled materials, and architectural features—such as pergolas, wood frames, and planted rooftops—naturally regulate temperature.
Rainwater is captured and stored in underground tanks and, together with purified water from an onsite biological treatment plant, is used for irrigation. Pathways are designed for in-ground absorption, supporting the natural water cycle. Additional eco-measures include solar-powered systems, LED lighting, motion sensors, and smart energy technologies—all aligned with AA environmental certification standards.
Stamna Sifnos is not just a place to stay—it’s an invitation to reconnect with the land, savor authentic Greek living, and experience the timeless charm of Sifnos through the lens of sustainability and mindful design.
