Nobis Hotel Palma’s Millennium of History Unveiled in Contemporary Luxury
Nobis Hotel Palma, situated in one of Palma’s oldest structures, harmoniously blends contemporary luxury with a rich history spanning a millennium. Designed by the acclaimed Wingårdhs team and with architectural contributions from Spanish studios Jordi Herrero Arquitectos and Eduardo Garcia Acuna Arquitectos, the interior redesign breathes new life into the historic space
The hotel features innovative transformations, such as turning an ancient fountain into an intimate dipping pool and repurposing a former escape-route tunnel into a serene nine-meter-high ceiling area. The soaring ceilings also provide a magnificent setting for a unique cocktail bar.
Featuring two original inner courtyards, a picturesque rooftop terrace, and a signature restaurant curated by the renowned Mallorcan chef Xema Álvarez, Nobis Hotel Palma skillfully blends historical charm with contemporary allure, achieving a harmonious and elegant balance between the past and present.
Housed within a 12th-century medieval Islamic palace, the hotel is organized around two original and resilient courtyards. Initially transformed into a residence for noble Mallorcan families, the space underwent Gothic-style renovations in the mid-15th century and later embraced a Baroque style two centuries afterward.
Today, the hotel meticulously preserves features from its over 1,000-year history, offering a captivating blend of architectural styles and historical continuity.
Complementing the robust architectural structure is Wingårdhs’ warm and inviting interior design, characterized by the use of high-quality natural materials like wood, wool, and leather—a hallmark of the Nobis Hospitality Group’s interpretation of contemporary luxury. The hotel achieves a captivating balance between the old and the new, skillfully contrasting the raw and the refined, as well as the rough and the smooth.
The Library
The hotel’s lobby welcomes guests with a meticulously preserved wooden alfarje ceiling adorned with enduring Arabic calligraphy, Naskh. With 37 rooms, including 11 suites, distributed across three floors, each individually designed space offers a unique experience shaped by the historic building’s architectural legacy.
Housed within the building’s historical space, Mirall Bar features nine-meter-high ceilings and a sophisticated ambiance defined by Catalan-inspired aesthetics. Expert mixologists craft cocktails using local and seasonal ingredients behind a meticulously designed bar with mirror strips, and libations are served on a counter made from compressed glass, offering a refined and elevated experience.
NOI, the hotel’s distinguished restaurant, offers sharing plates that blend European influences with a strong connection to the local food scene. Crafted by acclaimed Mallorcan chef Xema Álvarez, the dishes prioritize locally sourced produce, following a KM Zero policy. Set against an elegant backdrop of a back-lit textile ceiling and a sophisticated black-steel bar, NOI promises a unique and refined dining experience.
The Mirall Bar
Nobis Hotel Palma offers an ideal synthesis of beachfront leisure and urban vitality. The Sun Terrace, featuring parasols, sun loungers, and refreshing outdoor showers amid lush greenery, provides a tranquil escape. Descending a few steps unveils an original inner courtyard, where a carefully repurposed ancient fountain serves as a cozy dipping pool for two.
Below ground, the former medieval escape tunnel now houses the intimate Nobis Hotel Spa, complete with a heated indoor pool, dry sauna, and infrared sauna. The spa’s ambiance is curated with natural materials such as Spanish limestone, warm-toned wood, and Stucco Lustro walls, creating a clean, elegant experience that mirrors the property’s overarching ethos.
